The King of Limbs: New Experiments of Radiohead

Radiohead   is one of those bands that are able to combine different musical genres such as jazz, trip-hop, classical music, rock and so forth. Its performance style can appear to be ever-changing; yet there are some remain the same, for instance, Thom York’s vibrant and captivating vocal, beautiful lyrics, and skillful blend of various musical instruments. In this article, I would like to speak about its most recent album The King of Limbs , released in 2011.

I accidentally learned about the release of this album, when I was writing several research papers help and college term paper writing about the development of alternative rock in Great Britain. Naturally, I was willing to listen to it as soon as possible. Overall, it is much more experimental than the previous album In the Rainbows. Its distinguishing features are the increased use of piano loops and ambient sounds.  Moreover, the bassist Colin Greenwood and the drummer Phil Selway play a much more prominent role than they usually do. Overall, The King of Limbs seems to take listeners into a mysterious musical world which one does not want to leave.

Radiohead is believed to be the pioneer of trip-hop genre or at least one of them. In terms of style, The King of Limbs can be compared to Blue Lines by Massive Attach, which is probably the first trip-hop album. However, Radiohead use a greater variety of musical instruments, and in my opinion their lyrics is much more elaborate.
